Hundreds of Sudanese get displaced due to worsening insecurity
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said its field teams estimated that 645 Sudanese were displaced from Tebsa and Afnori in the Abbasiya Tagali locality on Nov. 22, citing a rapid deterioration in security conditions. Displaced families have sought refuge at multiple sites across Abbasiya, while the situation on the ground remains “highly tense and volatile.”
Two local organizations, the Nuba Mountains Platform and the Tebsa Youth Gathering, alleged that RSF forces, alongside the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), besieged Tebsa for several hours, stormed the local market, looted property, and killed one resident while injuring another. They also claimed that approximately 700 young men were detained and transported to an SPLM-N camp as part of forced conscription. Neither the RSF nor the SPLM-N has commented on the allegations.
Heavy clashes have erupted across North, West, and South Kordofan in recent days, displacing tens of thousands of civilians. Separately, the IOM reported that over 106,000 people have fled El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, since the RSF captured the city on Oct. 26.
According to the UN agency, 106,387 individuals have been displaced from El-Fasher to 37 localities across 11 of Sudan’s 18 states. It warned that severe insecurity along travel routes continues to hinder movement, noting that “the situation remains tense and unpredictable, with ongoing insecurity and continuous population movements.”
