RSF Drone Strike on Major Merowe Dam Thwarted by Sudanese Army
The army's 19th Infantry Division released a statement confirming the RSF deployed multiple drones targeting its headquarters, the Merowe Dam, and the Air Base in Northern State.
"All the drones were shot down before reaching their targets," the statement said.
Military officials emphasized their preparedness, declaring forces "are fully prepared to counter any threats" posed by RSF operations.
The rebel group has not issued any response to the army's claims.
This assault follows similar drone operations Sunday targeting El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, and White Nile State in southern Sudan.
Sudanese authorities have consistently accused the RSF of conducting drone strikes against civilian infrastructure, including power facilities and critical installations across northern and eastern cities. The paramilitary organization has maintained silence on these allegations.
Of Sudan's 18 states, the RSF now controls all five within the Darfur region, with only scattered northern sections of North Darfur remaining under army authority. The Sudanese army maintains dominance across most of the remaining 13 states spanning southern, northern, eastern, and central territories, including the capital Khartoum.
The devastating conflict between the military and the RSF, erupting in April 2023, has claimed thousands of lives and forced millions into displacement.
